Graphic Designers: Don and Ryan Clark

As I research more and more for design and execution inspiration, a colleague of mine suggested I take a look at the works of Don and Ryan Clark creators of Invisible Creature. The pair are brothers who currently operate a multidisciplinary design and illustration studio based in Seattle, Washington. The Clark brothers started focusing most of their attention on creating illustration and print work marketed towards music industry early in their career. Don and Ryan Clark have since become very successful commercially, while still managing to maintain a small business model. Invisible Creature has worked for artists such as Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, will.i.am, Korn, Kanye West, and many more. They also have worked with companies such as Target, LEGO, Nike, Adobe, Xbox, the New York Times, Nickelodeon, and MTV. While Don and Ryan Clark’s artwork is mainly focused on illustration, they create and sell a variety of products from prints, posters and books to apparel, furniture and toys. The brothers work has a unique child-like, playful style. The images they create are balanced in terms of color and composition. The rhythm, pattern and unity of their designs bring attention to important details, as showcased in the images pictured above. Don and Ryan Clark continue to be very successful. Their vision is clear, decisive and forceful, they create movement using lines and shapes that leads the eyes across the images. I hope to exemplify in my own work some of the techniques that have made their work so effective.
