Creating Art is often one of the most challenging and rewarding times of my life. Although sometimes it’s seems like a daunting task, it is incredible to see what my mind and other like minds are capable of creating. Jerry Saltz’s, 33 Rules for Being an Artist article was relatable to me in many ways. Just like many artists I have a hard time conceptualizing meaning in my artwork. Lesson Four Saltz’s states “Forget about making things that are understood.” Art is about your own process and message, whether or not my idea is conveyed it is still something I enjoyed making. This ties in with Saltz’s fifth lesson, “Work Work Work”, the more time I can dedicate to a piece of work the better the piece will turn out. Without practice and patience, it is hard for any of your artist skills to grow and improve. I agreed that it is important to see artwork, whether it be traveling, galleries, or any other outlet available. Lesson Seventeen encourages artists view fellow artists work and learn from it. It is important to be a part of your art community and connect with like minds. I stubble upon many of my greatest ideas spending time with my friends exchanging ideas and opinions. Similarly, to Lesson 24, I believe it is important artist attend events, parties, and art talks that interest you. Many well thought out ideas for your work are cultivated at places such as this. I was just introduced through this article to Jeff Koon's sex pictures series from 1990-91, “Made in Heaven Paintings”. I enjoy how different and daring his work was at the time. I aspire to create to discover my own daring, dangerous and out-there aesthetic as I continue to make art.
