Spring Break Reflection

Updated: Mar 19, 2021

While everything around us we once considered normal has been spun around and it is important to maintain normal schedules as much as possible, even while stuck at home. As scary as the future seems, it is crucial we rely on the information provided to us by reliable news sources and do our part to curve the spread of COVID-19. As hard as it is to not get sucked into the endless information surrounding coronavirus, be mindful of what is accurate and what is not. Over the break I was able to work on the piece pictured above. I would like to shed light on the importance of weeding out the untrustworthy and unreliable sources. It is your responsibility to stay informed and follow the guidelines provided to us in order to protect your health as well as the people around you.

Americans are often affected by Fake news, racism, and infodemic. WHO (World Health Organization) warned the world of a “massive infodemic” on the rise, defined as an overabundance of information—some accurate and some not—that makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it.” This statement was later backed up by MIT Technology Review who observed the rise of the first true social-media ‘infodemic,’” as “social media has zipped information and misinformation around the world at unprecedented speeds, fueling panic, racism ... and hope.” While all of us are quarantined it is a good time to reflect and keep in mind the other symptoms, we may be experiencing other than the obviously physical risks. Some social symptoms can be just as infectious as the virus itself. Please stay safe, stay informed and STAY HOME!
